On the cover Salvia pratensis L. (f. Lamiaceae Lindl.) is a perennial plant native to southern and central Europe. It usually grows in sunny grasslands and meadows. It is characterized by high phenolic content and exhibits considerable antioxidant activity; hence, it has long been used in medicine. Its nectar producing flowers are visited by honey bees, bumble bees, wild bees and butterflies.
