If your paper is dealing with taxa occurrences with spatial and/or temporal data (e.g. lists of taxa with detailed locations, collected/observed in concrete moment in time), the species occurence table should be chosen; it is more structured and may need some additional effort, but its informative value is much higher than the checklist type (see below).
These tables of occurrences are usually based on:
1) previously unpublished data (i.e. herbarium specimens, human observations etc,.)
- in this case please use template:
occurrences_AM_template_2024.xlsx
2) data on occurrences derived from published sources.
- in this case please use template:
occurrences_literature_AM_template_2024.xlsx
In both template files you can find two sheets: ‘Occurrences’ and ‘README’. In the README sheet you can find description of column headers and specific explanations. You are supposed to complete your data in ‘Occurrences’ sheet. Mandatory columns are highlighted in yellow, i.e.
-- basisOfRecord - the specific nature of the data record, e.g. HumanObservation, PreservedSpecimen, MaterialCitation
-- scientificName - the full scientific name, with authorship and date information if known. This should be the name in lowest level taxonomic rank that can be determined, e.g. Amanita muscaria (L.) Lam. 1783
-- eventDate - the date-time when the occurrence was recorded in text format (!)
Please don’t complete occurrenceID column (highlighted in grey)! This one refers to a persistent global unique identifier given by editorial Office.
Detailed descriptions of columns are also provided in separate file:
Explanations_for_Authors.pdf
Please don’t use formatting options in Excel. Provide all information in text format.
Please try to provide as many information as possible. If you can not find the column for the information you would like to provide, please follow
Darwin Core dictionary. If you would like to provide additional metadata describing your dataset you can create additional ‘metadata’ sheet as in the exemplary files provided below. If you have any further questions contact mail.
Below you can find examples of both types of occurrences files:

2)
