ABSTRACT
In this study, bentonites such as sodium, calcium and mixed type were used as binder in the pelletizing of fine iron ore concentrate taken from Divriği Iron Ore Concentration Plant-Turkey. Compressive strength, drop and porosity tests were conducted. In pelletizing tests, sodium bentonite samples were used as received and upgraded, while calcium bentonite samples were required activation by sodium bicarbonate. In addition, mixed bentonites were used as received and also after activation process . According to the results of mechanical strength tests, relatively stronger pellets were produced when as received and upgraded Na bentonite were used as a binder. On the other hand, the mixed bentonite needs to be activated with sodium bicarbonate to increase the strength of pellets. The results of drop number, compressive strength and porosity tests showed that pellets met required test values.
