ABSTRACT
Dense medium coal processing technology, based on separation according to density differences of coal and impurities, is well recognized as most accurate separation method and most efficient coal process to obtain highest possible clean coal yield. Therefore, the dense medium process has been extensively used in coal preparation industry worldwide. A number of mathematical models for dense medium cyclones exist. One of the most widely known in the coal industry was developed at the Mineral Technologies, Inc. This model consists of the equation which predicts the operating performance of a well maintained dense medium separator given the cyclone geometry (including cyclone diameter), separation density. In the work described in this paper, MODSIM© belong to dense medium cyclone model has been linked to Soma Uyar Mining Co. coal preparation plant. The model predicted use data of the sink-float tests results at separation density of dense medium cyclone.
