ABSTRACT
Lithium triborate (LBO) is a newly developed ideal nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal used in laser weapon, welder, radar, tracker, surgery, communication and etc. In this study, lithium triborate was synthesized from the solid state reaction of Li2CO3 and H3BO3 at 750°C. X-ray diffractometer was used to characterize and identifiy the products. According to the experimental results conducted up to now, lithium triborate was produced successfully with minor amount of side products. The preliminary results of this study will be presented here, the studies for the removal of side products are underway.
